INTERNATIONAL AIR SERVICES
Regular flights are available from London by Alliance Airlines and British Airways. Alliance Airlines operates services to Entebbe from London Heathrow (Terminal 3) on Monday and Friday, returning to London on Thursday and Sunday. British Airways serves Entebbe three times a week. Flights from London Gatwick on British Airways operate on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Return flights are on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Sabena - Belgian World Airlines operates flights to Entebbe from Brussels on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Return flights leave Entebbe on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Air France operates direct services to Entebbe from Paris on Friday and Sunday, returning on Saturday and Monday. Entebbe is also served by Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa, and Kenya Airways, via Nairobi. Uganda Airlines, the national carrier, provides extensive connections to and from cities in Eastern and Southern Africa.
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The principal international gateway to Uganda is Entebbe International Airport (EBB), four kilometres from the centre of the lakeside town of Entebbe, and 30km (30 minutes drive) from the capital, Kampala. For passengers arriving on private charter flights from neighbouring countries it is no longer necessary to clear immigration at Entebbe. It is now possible to arrange for advanced clearance at your destination in Uganda.
PASSPORTS/VISAS
A valid passport is required. Visas are not required by Citizens of Commonwealth Countries, the European Union and the United States. Citizens of other countries are advised to check with the nearest Ugandan Representative for more details.
HEALTH/IMMUNISATION
Vaccinations for yellow fever and cholera are required. A course of anti-malaria tablets are recommended. Bilhazia is present in some lakes and swimming is not recommended except in designated arrears. Only bottled water should be drunk; in hotels and lodges flasks of drinking water are provided. Good medical facilities are available in the main centres, but insurance should be taken out before departure.
CURRENCY
The unit of currency is the Uganda Shilling. It is recommended that visitors carry with them UK Sterling (A3) or US Dollars ($) travelers' cheques. Foreign cash and travelers' cheques can be changed at banks and numerous authorized FOREX bureaus.
AIRPORT DEPARTURE TAX
A departure tax of US $20 is payable by passengers on international flights at the airport.

WHAT TO WEAR
Informality is the norm. For daytime wear, sports shirts and slacks for men, light cotton dress, skirts and tops for women. In hotels a little formality may be required. If you are going into the mountains a sweater and strong walking shoes will be needed. A hat for protection against the sun, sunglasses and swim ware should also be packed .Avoid bright colours on safari. Brown, beige, dark green and khaki clothing is recommended.
WHAT TO TAKE
While equipment is available for hire in certain places, it is best for you to bring in such items as fishing tackle, golf clubs and climbing gear. Bring a camera or camcorder, spare batteries and a pair of binoculars.
ON SAFARI
Game parks are not zoos. They are home to wild animals. Visitors should never, for any reason, leave their vehicles. If there's a breakdown you should stay in your car and wait for help. Those going on Safari alone, should make sure someone is aware of the region to which they are heading and of the time they expect to return. Walking safaris should be undertaken when accompanied by a qualified guide. And remember that famous motto of the bush: take nothing but a photograph and leave nothing but a footprint! |
